Mayor Sarno and State Representative Williams Celebrate SouLao’d Kitchen’s Two Year Anniversary and Grand Reopening

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, State Representative Bud Williams and the East Springfield Neighborhood Council joined with Shawndell and Lena Redd and family to celebrate the grand reopening of SouLao’d Kitchen, located at 606 Page Boulevard, and their two-year anniversary of being in business. Mayor Sarno presented the family with a proclamation declaring Monday, November 15, 2021 as ‘SouLao’d Kitchen Day’ in the City of Springfield. The restaurant specializes in Laotian cuisine and is one of only 3 Laotian restaurants in the Commonwealth. State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representative Orlando Ramos, SRA Executive Director Amanda Pham and Deputy Director of Economic Development and Planning Brian Connors were also in attendance.

Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to Lena Redd and family!  This COVID-19 pandemic has been surreal and challenging, especially for our local restaurants.  Not only did SouLao’d Kitchen open just before the pandemic but they have managed to survive and endure and here we are today celebrating the grand reopening of their dine-in services and the marking of their two year anniversary.  Many businesses and families have struggled these past 18 months.  My Administration was happy to offer what assistance we could by providing over $1.5 million in four rounds of Prime the Pump grant funding to help address the critical needs and to help stabilize our local businesses.  SouLao’d Kitchen was one of the many businesses that we were able to help and I am happy to be here today for this joyous occasion and by the way this heartwarming cuisine is delicious too!”

State Representative Williams stated, “Covid-19 has disrupted the lives of many, but it has also brought us closer together and made us stronger. Many businesses throughout the Commonwealth have struggled to stay afloat, modifying the physical structures of their businesses to offer outdoor service, switching to take-out only and offering outside delivery service. Unfortunately, however many were unable to survive and had to close their doors forever.  When I see a business that has made it through this Pandemic, I commend them whole heartedly. Their tenacity, grit and perseverance are a testament to their dedication and commitment to providing service to this community and should be celebrated.”
