Mayor Sarno Joined with Senators Gomez and Lesser for a Special Announcement from Leonard Underwood and Upscale Socks

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and State Senators Adam Gomez and Eric Lesser joined with Upscale Socks owner Leonard W. Underwood for a special announcement of a new sock design in honor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the William C. Sullivan Regional Visitors Center. Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame President and CEO John Doleva, Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, and Chris Russell and Michelle Grout of the BID were also on hand.

The new sock has key and iconic graphics honoring the Commonwealth and our states history and culture.  Imagines include the state flower (Mayflower), state berry (Cranberry), the Basketball Hall of Fame, a sailboat, mountain landscape and a graduation cap acknowledge Massachusetts status as a knowledge and center for higher learning and education.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am proud to join with my colleagues in supporting Lenny Underwood and his business venture with Upscale Socks.  I am the proud owner of many of Lenny’s socks including ones honoring the City of Springfield as the ‘City of Firsts’ and I am now proud to have purchased his newest addition to his sock collection that honors our Commonwealth in this fun and fashionable way.”

“Giving new meaning to repping Massachusetts from head to toe,” said Senator Lesser. “Looking forward to celebrating Springfield small business owner, Lenny Underwood, and his new Massachusetts sock, which includes a nod to Western Mass as the birthplace of basketball!”

“Being from Massachusetts, I felt that it was important to highlight home before shining a light on another state or city”, said owner Lenny Underwood.  “The design features some of what the Commonwealth is known for: basketball, the knowledge corridor, mountains, state flower and state fruit.”
