Mayor Sarno and Springfield Partners for Community Action to Offer Seniors Free Door-to-Door Service

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, in collaboration with Springfield Partners for Community Action will initiate a PILOT  program that offers area seniors FREE door-to-door service for those wishing to go to the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center. The new service will be in addition to the three pick-up locations currently being offered in the Forest Park, Mason Square and East Springfield areas. To date there have been only three riders who have taken advantage of the current neighborhood pick up locations Those three riders were reportedly members of Mass Senior Action and they did not utlilize the return van service.

Seniors can be picked up at their homes to attend the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning December 2, 2019, by calling Springfield Partners at the dedicated reservation line at 413-575-0443.  Seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  A two to three day notice is necessary when scheduling a ride.

Springfield Partners and Mayor Sarno recognize the need for seniors to remain active and productive through social engagement with their peers.  Mayor Sarno states, “ I am pleased to initiate this pilot service to continue to support the transportation needs of our seniors and assess the need moving forward.  The goal of my administation is to serve our seniors  and to assure that the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center is accessible to all. My hope is this additional service will provide our senior citizens with increased opportunities to attend the many programs offered at the Raymond A.  Jordan Senior Center”.

Walt Fludd, Director of Veteran and Transportation Services at Springfield Partners adds, “We are excited to extend our transportation service and our continued collaboration with the City of Springfield and the Department of Elder Affairs, to area seniors.”
