Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined Springfield Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and students from Glickman Elementary School on the morning of Friday, November 30th as a new fire truck was named and blessed. Chaplain Father Gary Dailey blessed the Pierce Ladder Truck, which displays the SFD's new colors of red and black, a nod to their apparatus of the past. It cost $1,027,372.
The truck will be stationed at the Mason Square Fire Station and will serve the neighborhood surrounding Glickman.
Recently a “name the new fire truck” contest was done with the school’s fourth graders. Student Jeshuanys Quinones-Gauthier won the contest with the name “Springfield Warrior”. She received a gift bag from Mayor Sarno, a framed certificate from Commissioner Calvi and a ride in the truck.
