To The Editor:

Our City of Springfield was graced by the musical brilliance of the iconic Stevie Wonder at a sold out MassMutual Center this past Saturday night. My family and friends had a great time at the concert – “our MassMutual Center roared like the marquee MGM lion!” Prior to Stevie Wonder, we had dinner at a packed Nadim’s Mediterranean Restaurant. After the concert, we strolled to MGM Springfield, which was packed, not only in the gaming areas, but just as important, non-gaming areas too. Throughout this, all from 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., visitors from diverse backgrounds from New England to New York were raving about our Springfield downtown – our whole downtown area was bustling with thousands of visitors enjoying a safe, clean and carefree time. Many had stated to me “wow!” what a positive transformation and that they’ll be back and will spread the good word about the new Springfield. This was music to my ears and should be music to yours, too. No matter how many hundreds of thousands of dollars one can spend on marketing – “you can’t put a price tag on word of mouth advertising.” At about 1:30 a.m. my family and friends walked back to City Hall with downtown still bustling. Not too long ago, naysayers stated that this would never happen. Come on down and take a second and better look at our new Springfield!

Respectfully,

Domenic J. Sarno Mayor, City of Springfield
