Mayor Sarno Announces City Pools, Splash Pads and Five Mile Pond will Open Early Due to Heat Wave

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Patrick J. Sullivan, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management announced that Forest Park Pool, Gerena Pool, and Five Mile Pond will open this Saturday. The pools and Five Mile Pond were scheduled to open Sunday the first day of the new fiscal year. Mayor Sarno has appropriated funds within the Park Department budget to open a day earlier due to the impending heat wave.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to remind residents to stay hydrated, check on your elderly neighbors and take advantage of the cooling centers or park facilities that offer the resources to stay cool during these early hot days of summer.”

The City of Springfield will be opening the following sites Saturday June 30, 2018:

Forest Park Pool 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Gerena Pool 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Five Mile Pond 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Myrtle Street Splash Pad

The following spray park sites are currently under renovation and will be opening as follows:

Barrows Spray Park July 5th

Adams Spray Park July 11th

Forest Park July 20th
