Mayor Sarno Appreciates and Urges a Positive City Council Reconsideration Vote on Downtown Market Rate Housing Proposal

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “I am appreciative and pleased that our City Council will bring back on Monday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m.  a reconsideration vote for Silverbrick’s (3 Chestnut LLC) market rate housing proposal for 122 Chestnut Street, the old YMCA building. They have proven to have a good track record with our city. I deeply appreciate their continued belief and investment in Springfield.

“This is another positive step in our continued efforts to reinvent and enhance our downtown residential neighborhoods. This would also send a strong and thankful message to our ‘urban pioneer’ residents from millennials to empty nesters to baby boomers who currently reside in our Armory Quadrangle Neighborhood of historic Mattoon Street and Classical Condominiums, and more importantly, stimulate new residents  to come, work and play in our downtown neighborhood areas. As Dr. Seuss says, ‘oh the places you’ll go’ – we want our Springfield to be just that, and stay too.”
