Mayor Sarno thanks Springfield resident Crystal Copeland for her generosity in helping those affected by the ongoing water crisis in Flint, MI, and also made a check donation to assist her efforts. Part of Crystal's family resides in Flint, and after learning about the severity of the situation, began collecting bottled water for a donation. She has since partnered with the Dunbar Y Family & Community Center and nearly has enough to pack a U-Haul, which she will personally drive to Flint on March 8. The water will be distributed through the New Jerusalem Full Baptist Church, where her uncle is a deacon.
Donations can be made at the Dunbar Y Family & Community Center on Oak Street Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays, noon to 5:00 p.m. until March 6. Checks can be made out to "United for Flint" and brought to any Berkshire Bank location.
