James D.P. Farrell Brownfields Project Of The Year Award Given To The City Of Springfield And Wmeco

June 11, 2012 - The City of Springfield, the Springfield Redevelopment Authority and Western Mass Electric Company were recognized by the Environmental Business Council of New England for the development of the Indian Orchard Solar Facility.  The facility features 8,200 solar panels on 12 acres of land that formerly housed a foundry.

The James D.P. Farrell Brownfields Project of the Year award recognizes projects which serve as an example of excellence notwithstanding the social, economic, technical and institutional challenges imposed.

“This award speaks of Springfield’s continued collaboration and creativity efforts which equals not only good green policy for the environment, but more importantly, in revenue generation for our City’s budget.”
