Wake & Funeral Arrangements for Officer Kevin Ambrose

The wake will be Thursday, June 7th, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road (the corner of Wilbraham Road and Tinkham Road) Springfield, MA 01129. All of "Out of Town" Police Officers are to assemble at the parking lot ofWestern New England University, 1215 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, Massachusetts 01119. There will be busses for transportation to and from the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.. Personnel from WNEU will be on hand to park cars and direct the officers to the busses.

Bus Shuttle Service will be available for the public to get to Sampson's Funeral Home at Tinkham Road and Wilbraham Road.

The public can get the shuttle at "Western New England University" 1215 Wilbraham Road.

There will be free parking and free shuttle service (round trip) for the wake of fallen Officer Kevin Ambrose.

The University will have personnel on hand to help park cars and assist people to the shuttle.

The free shuttle will run from 1:45 P.M. to whenever the wake service is over.

The public is encouraged to use this shuttle to curtail any traffic and parking problems.

 Funeral

The funeral will be on Friday, June 8th, 2012 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01129.

Out of town officers are to assemble at Greenleaf Park, which is located at the corner of Vincent Street and Barnet Street (off of Parker Street) in Springfield. Personnel will be on hand to assist with parking . Greenleaf Park is one block and a half from St. Catherine's Church where the funeral will be held. At the request of the family, out of town officers are not to go to the funeral home on Friday morning.

Directly following the funeral, out of town police officers will march from the church to Hillcrest Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129 for the burial.

Immediately following the burial, officers family members and friends are cordially invited to a reception at Court Square in downtown Springfield (Main and Court Street). Bus transportation will be available for out of town officers. Officers will also be able to park in the parking lots under Rte 91 at no cost.

The public is asked to avoid the following streets Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

  • Tinkham Road.
  • Wilbraham Road from Tinkham Road to Parker Street.
  • The east side of Parker Street will be shut down. Parker Street will only have two lanes of traffic allowed beginning at 9:00 A.M. from Wilbraham Road to the Hillcrest Cemetery.

The streets will be open to traffic after the burial.

The public is encouraged and invited to witness the procession before and after the funeral. The public is also encouraged not to block traffic on the main roads and to park their vehicles on side streets.

Traffic will be re-routed by members of the Sheriffs Department and State Police who will be assisting the Springfield Police.
