Springfield, MA (July 26, 2011) – On Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 Springfield, Massachusetts was hit with a series of tornadoes that killed three people, injured 200, and destroyed 1,600 homes. A total of seven tornados occurred in Western and Central Massachusetts, including an EF3 rated tornado in Springfield. On June 15th the Federal Government declared Western MA a disaster area with over $25 million in damages.
Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities announced on July 26, 2011 a tornado rebuilding week called: “Funnel Your Energy for Rebuilding Together…..Rebuilding 25 Homes in 5 Days”. The project is from Saturday, October 1 – Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Rebuilding Together Springfield, MA affiliate along with more than 200 fellow Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country and 100 TD Bank employees from Maine to New England will repair and rebuild the homes of low-income Americans affected by the devastating tornadoes of June 1st. Recipients of services include the elderly, disabled, military veterans and families with children.
An example scope of the home rebuilding projects include: repairing or replacing roofs, windows, doors, siding, painting, yard cleanups, electrical, plumbing and planting.
