Mayor Domenic J. Sarno continues to give thanks to everyone in our community for stepping up and providing much-needed PPE’s for our police, fire and frontline personnel.
Congressman Richard E. Neal and State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. connected the City of Springfield with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, which serves as the De facto Consulate General of Taiwan in the New England area.
The Director-General Douglas Y.T. Hsu, representing the Taiwan government, joined with Mayor Sarno and Representative Puppolo at City Hall to present a very generous donation of 10,500 surgical masks to the City of Springfield.
Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Congressman Neal and Representative Puppolo for their continued leadership and for making the introduction with Director-General Hsu. These vital and much needed masks will go immediately to our dedicated city employees so they can continue to do their jobs for our residents and business community. I am deeply appreciative and thankful to Director-General Douglas Hsu and his team and to the government and the people of Taiwan for their generosity and compassion as we continue to work together to mitigate the spread of this COVID-19 Coronavirus.”
“I am very pleased that the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston has made this generous donation of personal protective equipment to the City of Springfield,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal. “This equipment is critical as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 crisis and try to reduce the risk of transmission.”
Representative Puppolo added, “I have worked closely with Director-General Hsu and his government on many issues over the years and when he reached out offering to donate much needed PPEs to our City of Springfield, I was more than happy to make that connection to the Mayor’s Office. I am proud of the relationships we have established over the years. These vital and lifesaving PPEs will go a long way in saving lives and helping to reduce the spread of this Coronavirus.”
Director-General Hsu stated, “Taiwan is pleased to provide these much-needed surgical masks to our friends in Springfield as we join hands in the common fight against COVID-19. Taiwan can help and Taiwan is helping.”
