Springfield Inaugural Events Announced

Celebrations for the 2012 Inauguration of Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Springfield City Councilors will begin Monday, January 2, 2012, and continue on Friday, January 6, 2012. Festivities will mark the first four-year term for a Springfield Mayor.

On Monday, January 2, 2012, at 10:00 A.M., the formal Inauguration will be held in Springfield City Council Chambers immediately followed by the Springfield City Council’s Organizational Meeting. Speakers for Mayor Sarno’s Inauguration will be Congressman Richard E. Neal, State Senator James T. Welch and State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr., Reverend Robert S. White, Pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish will offer blessings and words of inspiration. There will be performances by Vanessa Ford who will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America.  The Inaugural Festivities will air live on Comcast Public Access Station Channel 17.

Festivities will continue Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., when “Bright Nights at Forest Park” will be open with free admission. Mayor Sarno, his family and members of the Springfield City Council will be at the front gate to greet visitors. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at “Santa’s Cottage.”

On Friday, January 6, 2012, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., the Inaugural Party will be held at the Richard Flynn Student Union on the Campus of Springfield College. It will feature the musical talents of the Springfield High School of Science & Technology Jazz Band and light refreshments.  Parking will be available at Springfield College in the Wilbraham Avenue lot with shuttles to the Student Union.

Prior to the Inauguration on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at 10:30 A.M., a Mass of Celebration will be held at Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street. The mass will be celebrated by Father Robert White.
