Firearms Identification Card

The application for an FID card can be obtained at the Clerks Office at the Springfield Police Department or downloaded. Applicants for a Firearms Identification Card, a License to Carry Firearms, or a License to Possess a Machine Gun need to complete LTC/FID application, a valid Massachusetts Drivers License, and proof of residency. Applicants must be residents or business owners in the City of Springfield.

New applicants, excluding mace, need to present a certificate of completion of a Massachusetts approved gun safe course at the time of application.

Applicants should allow time for fingerprints and photos along with an interview with a member of the licensing staff.

The application is reviewed by the licensing authority of the Springfield Police Dept. Applicants will be notified by mail and can pick-up their license at the Clerks Office at the Springfield Police Dept., 130 Pearl St., Springfield, MA.

The forms needed for the application process are listed below and can be downloaded, printed, and filled-out.

Forms are accepted at the Clerks Office only on Monday thru Friday, 8:30AM to 12:00PM. Applicants should be prepared to pay the $100.00 non-refundable application fee when the application is submitted. (if needed). Types of payment include personal checks, cash, or money orders.
