New Community Preservation Act (CPA) Tax Surcharge

The new Community Preservation Act (CPA) tax surcharge will begin appearing on residents’ third quarter tax bills  in January. This is a  1.5% surcharge on real estate taxes, which will be used to fund projects that preserve the character of the community.

Springfield voters approved the CPA on November 8, 2016, and the law went into effect on July 1, 2017.

For information on the CPA, how it is calculated and how to apply for an exemption, please visit the CPA Board’s website: http://www.springfield-ma.gov/finance/index.php?id=community-preservation
