Governor Charlie Baker Announces $5 Million from the State to Fund UMass Cybersecurity Initiatives

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno welcomed Governor Charlie Baker to Springfield yesterday to announce that the Commonwealth has awarded the University of Massachusetts with $5 million for equipment to power its data and cybersecurity initiatives at its Springfield and Amherst campuses. Joining for the exciting announcement were UMass President Marty Meehan, Umass Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, MassMutual CEO Roger Crandall, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash, and local elected officials. This support is intended to secure UMass at the forefront of data science and cybersecurity technology.
