Mayor Domenic J. Sarno welcomed 25 new Teach for America teachers to Springfield. Within the group are corps members from across the country, and several who grew up in Springfield and Western Massachusetts.
Corps members, who will be teaching in Springfield and Holyoke, started off their day at the Museum of Springfield History to learn about the city’s history of innovation and ground their experience as they begin their commitment. They will be joining last year’s cohort, creating a force of over 45 new teachers in Western Massachusetts.
Teach For America is a national organization that recruits, selections, and trains leaders from colleges and university campuses as well as career changers seeking to close the opportunity gap that exist between high income and low income students.
