MAYOR DOMENIC J. SARNO’S FOURTH INAUGURAL EVENTS ANNOUNCED

Springfield, MA- Celebrations for the 2016 Inauguration of Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will begin Sunday, January 3, 2016 and conclude Friday, January 8, 2016. The Inauguration marks Mayor Sarno’s second four-year term. All celebratory events are free and open to the public.

  • Prior to the formal Inauguration ceremony, a Mass will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
  • The formal Inauguration will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Old First Church. Speakers for the Inauguration will be Congressman Richard E. Neal, Sheriff Michael J. Ashe Jr., Senator Eric P. Lesser, and Representative Carlos Gonzalez. Mistress of Ceremonies will be Attorney Cynthia Tucker and Judge Mary Hurley (retired) will give the Oath of Office. Invocation will be given by Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski, and Prayers of Unity will be offered by Imam Dr. Wisham Abdul-Bakim, PhD, Rabbi Mark Shapiro, Pastor Eli Serrano, and Reverend Dr. Calvin J. McFadden Sr. Cassandra and Chiara Sarno will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Vanessa Ford will sing the National Anthem and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Quintet will perform.
  • A reception will be held immediately following the Inauguration in the Mahogany Room in Springfield Symphony Hall.
  • Festivities will continue Monday evening, as all visitors to Bright Nights at Springfield’s Forest Park from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. will be greeted by Mayor Sarno and his family and offered free admission.
  • The Inaugural Gala will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Springfield, and will conclude Inaugural celebrations.
