CITY OF SPRINGFIELD SEEKS PUBLIC’S HELP TO REPORT STREETLIGHT OUTAGES
December 9, 2014 –Springfield, MA– Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is seeking the public’s help in reporting streetlights that are out throughout the City of Springfield to Western Mass Electric Company.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing streetlights dark. It is imperative from a public safety perspective to make sure streets are well lit. The City is billed for those lights if they are illuminated or not; so I am asking for residents to assist in reporting any lights that they notice to be out to WMECo.”
Commenting on the Mayor’s relentless reporting of streetlight outages, Mayor Sarno’s Constituent Services Director William Baker stated; “If it is dark out and the Mayor is on the road I will almost always have a voicemail the following morning listing locations to report to WMECo. Unfortunately he can’t do it alone and any help the public can provide would be greatly appreciated.”
WMECo Vice President of Electric Field Operations Bob Coates stated: "WMECO regularly performs street light patrols to repair lights we find are out. We appreciate our customers help reporting street lights out either by calling 1-800-286-2000 or on our website www.wmeco.com. Once reported, WMECo crews respond and fix those lights we can repair as soon as the next business day. "
