ICE SAFETY ADVISORY

December 19. 2013 - Springfield, MA - As the holidays approach, the Department of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management, Executive Director, Patrick J. Sullivan is issuing a warning, due to the unseasonably cold weather, to stay off all ponds and lakes in the City of Springfield.   Although the weather is cold, the temperatures have not been cold long enough for the ice to be safe to walk on or skate.

A layer of snow covering on the ice gives a false sense of safety and the Department encourages all parents and guardians to educate their children on the danger of unsafe ice and to heed the warnings posted on the signs. You can access a copy of our Ice Safety Brochure at the following website, www.springfieldcityhall.com/park and hit on the ice safety in the left hand column.  Or contact the Recreation Division at 413-787-6434 Monday through Friday.
