CITY OF SPRINGFIELD’S OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED BUDGET PRESENTATION AWARD FROM GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION
November 20, 2013 – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that the City’s Finance Department has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the sixth consecutive year. The award was presented for the City’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget.
The GFOA award represents a significant achievement by the City’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and demonstrates their commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting and adherence to the City’s stringent financial ordinances. The OMB satisfied nationally recognized guidelines to qualify for this award.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “The City’s Office of Management and Budget is extremely deserving of this recognition especially during these challenging times of cutbacks and financial management during our continued disaster recoveries. I extend my appreciation to the entire team for their ongoing commitment to the City’s fiscal stability.”
“The city continues to strive for financial excellence and this award validates that we are doing the right things to achieve this goal,” commented Springfield’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Timothy J. Plante.
The City’s Budget Director, Jennifer C. Winkler, stated "This award is the highest recognition for budgetary excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association. The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 17,500 government finance professionals in North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
