CITY OF SPRINGFIELD SEEKS PUBLIC’S HELP TO REPORT STREET LIGHTS THAT ARE OUT

November 20, 2013 –Springfield, MA– Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is seeking the public’s help in reporting streetlights that are out throughout the City of Springfield to Western Mass Electric Company.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “One of my biggest pet peeves is streetlights that are out. It is imperative from a public safety perspective to make sure streets are well lit. The City is billed for those lights if they are illuminated or not; so I am asking for residents to assist in reporting any lights that they notice to be out to WMECo.”

Commenting on the Mayor’s passion with reporting streetlights that are out, Mayor Sarno’s Constituent Services Director William Baker stated; “If it is dark out and the Mayor is on the road I will almost always have a voicemail the following morning listing locations to report to WMECo. Unfortunately he can’t do it alone and any help the public can provide would be greatly appreciated.”

WMECo Vice President of Customers Operations Bob Coates stated: "WMECO is proud to partner with the City to enhance public safety through more illumination. This is a high priority for us and we understand streetlights play an important role in our neighborhoods. We're committed to repairing streetlights as quickly as possible after we become aware of a problem with one of them."

To report outages please call WMECo at (413) 781-4300 or on-line at https://www.wmeco.com/wms/streetlight.aspx?nl=slr. You can also utilize the City’s 3-1-1 Call Center to report any street lights that may be out: please call 3-1-1 from a landline with in the City of Springfield or (413) 736-3111 from outside the City or on a cell phone.
