September 5, 2013 -Springfield, MA- Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Park Chairman Brian Santaniello, and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management Patrick Sullivan today announced the naming of the Greenleaf Community Center in honor of Clodo Conception. Mayor Sarno and The Springfield Park Commission were contacted by Sixteen Acres residents requesting the City’s consideration in renaming the center after Mr. Concepcion for his tireless efforts for their neighborhood.  It was met with great support from the community and the Mayor to strongly endorse the naming of this building honoring his efforts in ensuring a positive quality of life for the Sixteen Acres neighborhood.

Mayor Sarno stated; “Clodo Concepcion has been a true friend to all the residents of Sixteen Acres.  He has put forward the needs of the community before his own.   He has set high goals for the neighborhood and due to his efforts we have witnessed the transformation of the community center and the business community thrives due to his passion for his neighborhood. Every day Clodo is working for the betterment of his community.”

Commissioner Brian Santaniello stated; “Clodo Concepcion has been a strong voice for this community for many years. I can attest to his solid support for the residents and ensuring their needs are met. He has worked tirelessly on many issues over the years and always ensured the residents were represented at many levels of local and state government. The naming of this building in his honor will serve as a reminder to all of us the importance of being involved with your community and to serve your community with integrity and honesty.”

Patrick Sullivan stated; “I met Clodo over 15 years ago when we first learned of the poor conditions of the Greenleaf Community Center.  Clodo quickly called into action a working committee and started soliciting help from all levels of government. It was this commitment that saved this building. The naming of this building in his honor allows us to celebrate the importance of community and how one person can make a difference. His commitment to the Sixteen Acres community will be enjoyed for many generations to come as he has protected this community well.”
