Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that the City’s Finance Department has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fourth consecutive year. The award was presented for the City’s Fiscal Year 2012 budget.
The GFOA award represents a significant achievement by the City’s Finance Department and demonstrates their commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The City’s Finance Department satisfied nationally recognized guidelines to qualify for this award.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “The City’s Finance Department is extremely deserving of this recognition especially during this day and age of challenging times of continued state aid funding cutbacks and I extend my appreciation to each of them for their ongoing commitment to the City’s fiscal stability.”
“The city continues to strive for financial excellence and this award validates that we are doing the right things to achieve this goal,” commented Springfield’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Lee C. Erdmann.
The City’s Finance Director, Timothy J. Plante, stated "This award is the highest recognition for budgetary excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association. I am proud of the finance team who have been able to win this award for the last 4 years. This is truly a great accomplishment."
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 17,500 government finance professionals in North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
