HOME RESIDENTS BUSINESS LEISURE GOVERNMENT CALENDAR

Neighborhood Walk Benefits Community

August 8, 2011 – As part of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno’s continued neighborhood walk initiative, Mayor Sarno will participate in another neighborhood walk on Monday, August 8, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., in the Northend Neighborhood (meet at corner of Main and East Hooker Streets, Springfield, MA).  Representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Citywide Violence Prevention Task Force, Shannon Anti-Gang Initiative, Springfield Graffiti Remediation Team and neighbors will come together to identify neighborhood concerns.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno extended his appreciation to all the agencies involved in this endeavor.  “This is part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve the quality of life in all our City’s neighborhoods, stated Sarno.  The City will be gathering information and assessing potential issues that may exist in an effort to have a proactive City response.”

Coordinated by the Mayor’s Office, the purpose of the walk is to assess quality of life issues and public safety concerns of residents in the targeted neighborhoods.

“The significance of this walk is that we will gather important information which will allow us to effectively plan our work and coordinate city wide strategies as we move forward, said Darryl E. Moss, the youth violence prevention liaison in the Office of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. It not only puts concerned groups on the same page, but in the same sentence.”

More neighborhood walks are being scheduled for other areas of the City.
