Aug. 5, 2008 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at Forest Park announcing the premier of “As You Like It,” a free Shakespearean production playing at Forest Park August 8 through August 10th.
The press conference will take place at the main ball fields, where crews are currently assembling staging for the production.
In addition to free admission to the show, Forest Park will waive the car admission fee to the park for each of the shows.
Mayor Sarno has encouraged city residents to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy a production that has traditionally been reserved for more metropolitan cities. The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, which ended their run at Boston Commons on Aug. 3, will bring their staging, lighting and cast to Springfield for the three-day tour.
“It is an honor for Springfield to join a host of other fine cities such as Boston and San Francisco in bringing a first-rate Shakespearean production to life under the stars,” said Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. “We hope the residents of this city turn out in droves to enjoy this magnificent cultural event. For many it may be their first time witnessing a live production, but we hope to make it a summer tradition here in Forest Park.”
