The mission of the City of Springfield Public Works Department is to maintain and preserve the City's public way infrastructure which includes streets, sidewalks, street signs, traffic signals, and catch basins.  The Department explores cost effective and environmentally responsible disposal of waste and recycling.  The Department provides an economically and professionally operated fleet service center to assure the safety of the citizens and employees of Springfield.  Additionally, the Public Works Department protects the environment while maintaining health and safety standards through the management and operation of the City's Storm Drain system.
