Dog Licenses


April is Dog License Renewal Month

Dog licenses for year 2008 (April 1, 2008 - March 31, 2009) are now available in the Springfield City Clerk’s Office. Please bring a copy of a valid rabies certificate and certificate of spaying/neutering.  The fee is $20 per dog if your dog has not been spayed or neutered.  The fee is $5 per dog for a spayed or neutered dog.  Payment may also be made by mail using the census form or regular mail, make check payable to the City of Springfield and enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope for each dog.

The City Clerk issues licenses to individuals who own or keep a dog in the City of Springfield. Licenses are issued yearly beginning April 1st.

To obtain a yearly license an owner must provide a valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate and a $20.00 fee for male or female dogs. A reduced yearly fee of $5.00 is charged to owners who provide the City Clerk with a veterinarian's certificate of spaying or neutering.

Any person who fails to obtain an annual dog license on or before May 31st shall be charged when applying for a license, in addition to the license fee, a late fee of $5.00 per month will be charged on the 1st of each month thereafter.

To license your dog, visit the City Clerk's Office during office hours, Monday – Friday (9 – 4) & Thursday (9 – 6). Or if you prefer, you may license your dog via the US Mail by using a Dog License Request Form and including a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
